HED wheels 2011
We have almost all HED. 2011 wheels in stock. New in 2011 are:
Stability Control Technology (SCT)
The 2008 introduction of the C2 platform was a dramatic improvement over our previous designs. It eliminated the aero bias of 19mm tires (in fact overall wheel drag on C2 rims with 23mm tires is lower than on our older wheels with 19mm tires). Additionally, 23mm tires have lower rolling resistance, increased cornering capability, and better rider quality than 19mm tires.
Hed's latest advance is Stability Control Tuning (SCT). It is a proprietary design process whereby each rim model is specifically tuned for neutral crosswind handling. What the C2 platform did for speed and cornering, SCT does for handling. The genius of SCT is not simply improved handling – it’s the brilliant handling at no detriment to wheel drag.
 Stingers
All 2011 Stingers are tuned with SCT.
Stinger 5 is a new 50mm depth wheel. Sporting a tire bed for 25mm and larger tubulars and extra plies of carbon in rim, it is specifically made for cobbles and cross. Front weighs 615g, rear is 775g.
Stinger 7. Like the S5, the S7 is built with specific riders in mind: sprinters. HED. has stiffen the rim sides so that the wheel will perform better under high powered efforts. A stiffer wheel not only tracks better, but is more efficient. Less flex – more speed.
Ardennes
We renamed our alloy wheel line. Bastogne, Kermesse, and Flanders are all in the Ardennes family now. The Ardennes line (top to bottom) is now:
- Ardennes FR: Flamme Rouge version with carbon hub shells, field serviceable rear hub, Ti skewers, Cx Ray spokes, and scandium alloyed rims. Rim tape included
- Ardennes SL: Built with carbon shelled front hub, alloy rear hub, bladed Sapim race spokes, and Scandium alloyed rims. Standard skewers and rim tape included.
- Ardennes LT: Carbon front hub shell, rear alloy hub, bladed Sapim spokes, alloy rims. Std skewers and rim strips included with the wheelset.
- Ardennes CL: 2x2x front and rear lacing pattern with 24 spokes front and 28 rear, bladed J bend Sapim spokes, alloy rims available in clincher or tubular. Skewers and rim strip included.
- Ardennes GP: alloy hubs, round spokes (18 front, 24 rear), clincher alloy rim. Skewers and rim tape included.
Hubs and lacing
All the rear wheels will be laced 2x2x in 2011. 2x2 lacing makes a stiffer wheel, which is needed because modern frames are stiffer. C2 platform rims are stiffer. Tires do not wash side to side on the C2 platform (unlike on tires on 19mm rims). All of these factors mean that the old 2x/radial spoke pattern is no longer adequate. In the days before superbikes and wide rims, there were a lot of things on a bike that absorbed lateral force before it got to the wheel. Those days are gone, and a stiffer lace pattern is needed for today’s bikes and wheels.
2011 Flamme Rouge rear hubs will be be quickly and easily serviced in the field. They are fitted with pass-through shielded seal bearings and a grease port.
All Stinger, Jet, and Ardennes FR , SL and LT front wheels have a carbon hub shell.
Aerobars
For DI2 users and track riders, the new Corsair E model is made without integrated brake levers. 530g complete with extensions.
Hed’s new aerobar extension is a new S bend. It retains the "S" portion for multiple hand positions, but the tips angle up 7.5°.
